RSS Headliner

Getting your headlines to appear in newsfeeds requires the creation and maintenance of an RSS file. View our complete guide to publishing your headlines for more information.

If you already have a feed and are looking for an easy way to update it then try our RSS updater tool.

The RSS code generator will help you to create the RSS file required. First select how many headlines (up to 10) you want your feed to have. Then fill in the form with links, titles and descriptions. Click on the Make the Code button. Then click on the what does it look like button to preview your headlines, this also provides basic syntax checking catching some errors before you validate the the file.

Please use special html character codes in your title and description if you require
& (&)

< (<lt;)

£ (£pound;)
these are a few of the common characters known not to validate. Check out a list of special character codes if you use others that cause your validation to fail. (thanks to Michael Clark for pointing this out)

OK Let's get started

How Many Headlines :

Your code will appear below
[what's this?]

Check that there are no obvious errors with your code by clicking on the "what does it look like" button. If you are happy that everything is ok, here's what to do.

  • load your favourite text/html editor
  • create a new file
  • copy all the text in the textarea
  • paste the text into your new file
  • save it as your_name.rss (give the file any name you choose but make sure it has a .rss extension)

You then need to upload it to your website. Once you have done that , go to the archive.org validator. Enter the full URL to your RSS file in the text box then click the validate button. If all has went well you should be informed that your file is valid.

Read our complete guide to publishing your headlines to find out what to do next.

All RSS files tend to get displayed in different ways by scripts that parse the file. Clicking on the "what does it look like" button is not an exact representation of how your headlines may appear. The window that opens will display your file in a format decided by me, which is not that uncommon.

However, I have added some error checking and if there are any trouble spots the displayed page will inform you where the problem is. This is not an full RSS validation tool, it merely informs of incorrect url syntax or empty fields.

This tool is provided free of charge. Use of the generated code requires no obligation on your part to link to this site either by choice or by forcing a visible link to appear in the generated code.

No link to this site will appear on any pages that use code generated from this site. However, the generated code does produce a comment specifying the url of the code generator ( it is hidden and will never appear to your visitor ). You are free to remove the line but we would appreciate it if you left it in place. Thanks :)
